Francesco’s Kitchen

Published by Ebury Press

Written by Francesco da Mosto

Designed and typeset by Strathmore Publishing

320pp 246 x 189 mm Crown Quarto cased hardback

“Presented with great style” – Amazon

Ebury Press asked us to select from over 1,500 pictures to match the text, and then design, typeset and lay out a 320-page book.  This was all achieved on a very tight deadline to ensure release to coincide with a television series. Delivered as Quark application files to the Ebury production department. Amazon reader comments include: ‘the book looks fantastic’ and ‘presented with great style’.

Painting Paradise

Published, edited, designed and typeset by Strathmore Publishing

96pp 240 x 189 mm cased hardback

Bruce Killeen asked us to create and publish this memoir in honour of Julia Wroughton of the Inniemore Painting School at Carsaig on Mull.  We helped select images to be included, then guided the author in structuring the book. Detailed colour correction was required for the paintings, and we arranged digital printing from final PDFs to enable a short run. It was very well received, and has reprinted.

James Caird Society Newsletter

Produced and distributed by Strathmore Publishing

16pp A4, published annually

In 2006, the James Caird Society, which honours the memory of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton, asked us to redesign its newsletter. The design selected from a number of proposals has stood the test of time well, and its flexible column layout has made it possible to include very varied content without departing from the grid. We handle the whole job, from copy to mailing.

British-Yemeni Society Journal

Produced and distributed by Strathmore Publishing

96 or 128pp A5, published annually

Following the success of the James Caird Newsletter, we were asked to refresh the annual journal of the British-Yemeni Society. The complex content includes footnotes and transcripts of Arabic which require diacriticals, so our knowledge of suitable typefaces played a part in achieving another timeless and inviting design.

The University of Surrey: A History of Shaping the Future

Published by the University of Surrey

Written by Jaqueline Mitchell

Designed and typeset by Strathmore Publishing

256pp 280 x 210 mm hardback

“The response to the book has been overwhelmingly positive and we have received nothing but very impressed feedback from everyone who has seen it. We are all thrilled with the end result.” – James Newby, Director of Traded Services and Business Support, University of Surrey

The Vice-Chancellor’s office of the University of Surrey invited tenders to produce a history for the celebration of 120 years. We are proud to have won the contract. We commissioned Jaqueline Mitchell, one of our team of freelancers, to research and write the book.

Dulwich College: A History 1616-2008

Published by Dulwich College

Written by Jan Piggott

Designed and typeset by Strathmore Publishing

400pp 280 x 240 mm hardback

“This monumental volume, beautifully produced…” – The Spectator magazine

Another job won by tender, this History of Dulwich College was ten years in the writing. To achieve the best possible value, Strathmore sourced printing in China – and the job was passed on press by one of its team. Strathmore handled the whole job, including scanning and colour-correcting more than 400 illustrations.
