We believe there is no satisfaction in producing something merely ‘okay’. We strive for the highest quality in all that we do.
Part of this quality comes from having the right equipment.
Part comes from our widely experience network of writers, editors, readers, producers and composers.
We believe that our warm and welcoming company culture, the more intangible aspect, is the crucial final component.
Strathmore began producing audiobooks in 1996 and has since won over 20 Audiofile Earphones awards, 5 US Audies and over 20 awards from the Spoken Word Publishers’ Association. While digital download may have replaced cassette, our dedication to producing imaginative and immersive experiences remains the same.
An audiobook is not a substitute for the printed word, but a medium in its own right.
Our first-class facilities include Avid Pro Tools recording, Neumann mics and Focusrite preamps in a studio designed and installed by world-class professionals who have worked in Abbey Road and AIR.
Nicholas Jones, founder of Strathmore, is a member of the Audio Group of the Publishers’ Association. With their help he wrote a set of guidelines we believe should be adhered to when recording spoken word. Click here to read it.
Strathmore’s origins are in editing, designing, page-layout and print-buying. Our books have been described as ‘magnificently produced’ – click here to view some examples.
We run Capture One, Quark Xpress and the Adobe Creative Cloud. We also use colour-calibrated scanners and monitors, and a Ricoh A3 CMYK printer.
