We believe there is no satisfaction in producing something merely 'OK'. We strive for the highest quality in all that we do.
Part of this quality comes from having the right equipment.
More quality comes from our network of writers, editors, readers, producers and composers, who are all widely experienced in their fields.
And we also believe that the more intangible aspect, our warm and welcoming company culture, is the crucial final component. Click on the headings to discover more about how we work.
Stathmore began producing audiobooks in 1996 and in our history we have won over 20 Audiofile Earphones awards, 5 US Audies and over 20 awards from the Spoken Word Publishers' Association. While digital download may have replaced cassette as the medium of choice, our dedication to producing imaginative, immersive experiences for curious listeners remains the same. An audiobook is not a substitute for the printed word (though they remain beneficial to visually impaired people), but a medium in its own right.
Our first class facilities include Avid Pro Tools recording through Neumann mics and Focusrite preamps in a studio designed and installed by world-class professionals who have worked in Abbey Road and AIR.
Nicholas Jones, Managing Director of Strathmore, is a member of the Audio Group of the Publishers' Association, and under their auspices wrote a set of guidelines we believe should be adhered to when recording spoken word. Click here to read it.
Strathmore's origins are in editing, designing, page-layout and print-buying. Our books have been described as 'magnificently produced' - click here to view some examples.
We run Capture One, Quark Xpress and the Adobe Creative Cloud, using colour-calibrated scanners and monitors, and a Ricoh A3 CMYK printer.
